A chubby corgi that brushed shoulders with the Queen has been given a new home in east London just in time for Christmas.

Beama proved to be a firm favourite of Her Majesty’s after she visited Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in March.

But the monarch was sadly unable to offer him a home alongside her loyal dogs Willow and Holly, and her two Dachshund Corgi crosses Candy and Vulcan.

The 12-year-old dog arrived at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home for a second time just days before Her Majesty was due to visit.

Beama was originally rehomed from Battersea as a puppy but returned years later after his owner moved into a care home and was unable to look after him.

Despite not becoming a resident at Buckingham Palace, Beama is now being treated like a king in east London.

New owner Sally said: “This is the first time we’ve had a dog of our own and we adore our very own royal, Beama. He’s living a lifestyle fit for a king.

“He loves his walks and was a bit portly so is shedding the pounds – we also keep each other company as I’m at home during the day.

“I wish The Queen and everyone at Battersea could see how much he’s grown into himself. Beama has settled in so well to our family – he’s the best companion and we love him dearly.”
