A box of four kittens was found dumped by a busy south London road in heavy rain.

The tiny cats, aged just six weeks, were found filthy and shivering in Willenhall Road, Greenwich, on Monday morning. It is thought the animals were left overnight.

Full recovery: the kittens at the RSPCA centre

RSPCA staff said the kittens were found just in time for their lives to be saved.

Inspector Ellen Thomas said: “Had they not been found when they were who knows what would have happened.

“The little kittens were sitting in a puddle of water in this box and were completely drenched.

“They were in such a state - covered in their own faeces and all of them shivering. There was no bedding at all. They'd clearly been there all night.

“They are simply too young and too small to survive on their own in this way, especially in such torrential weather.”

The tabby and white moggies, named Bubbles, Chloe, Olly and Bobby, have since made a good recovery.

They were taken into boarding and have already been found new homes which they will be taken to soon.

Anyone with information on how they came to be dumped can call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
