Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon today urged young Londoners to take part in vlogging competition the Vlogstar Challenge.

The competition, which is now in its third year, aims to inspire 16-25 year olds in London and Essex to share their views on the issues they are passionate about by giving them the skills and opportunities to create their own video blogs.

The prize is £500 worth of production equipment and one-to-one mentoring with YouTube in their London studio space.

“YouTube is a powerful platform with endless possibilities and this is an amazing opportunity to gain skills and confidence,” said former Strictly Come Dancing winner Dixon.

Last year’s winner Isaac Harvey joined the talent show judge in encouraging people to enter.

Isaac, 23, from Ilford, took to YouTube – appropriately enough – to share why young people should take part.

“Young people are amazing and we have talent and the Vlogstar Challenge really showed that,” he said.

The programme is organised by the Jack Petchey Foundation and Media Trust, and last year attracted over 1,500 entries. Participants take part in a free one-day vlogging training session, and are then invited to submit their best vlogs into the competition.

The winning vlog will be selected by a panel of judges that includes representatives from YouTube and the Evening Standard. In addition to their personal prizes, the winner will get £2000 for their school or youth organisation.
