A cyclist in her 50s was taken to hospital with “serious leg injuries” following a lorry collision in Aldgate.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) said it was called to reports of a collision in Leman Street at 9.16am on Tuesday.

Paramedics treated two people, including the cyclist who was required to be taken to a major trauma centre in east London “as a priority” for her injuries.

Another person was treated at the scene and did not require any further medical assistance.

A LAS spokesperson said: “We sent two ambulance crews and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“The first paramedic arrived in less than five minutes.”

“We treated a patient at the scene for serious leg injuries and took her to a major trauma centre, by road, as a priority.

“We also checked over a second person and discharged him at the scene.”

The Metropolitan Police said they are awaiting an update on the woman’s condition.

The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and there were no arrests.

“Road closures and cordons remain in place,” the Met Police said.

Whitechapel High Street was closed both ways following the collision, causing traffic disruption in the area.

According to BBC Radio London Travel, traffic is crawling eastbound from Aldgate High Street.

They added: “Very slow on Mansell Street through the one way system and on Commercial St. Police are directing traffic.”
