A 22-year-old London actor has landed a dream role in a major US drama after being chosen for a special scheme to help students affected by the pandemic.

Ahmed Elhaj graduated from LAMDA in 2020 and was picked out by Warner Brothers from thousands of graduates as one of their top 10 best hopes.

The Warner Brothers scheme recognised talented students whose final years in drama school were hit by the pandemic with traditional routes to work, including showcases and visits to casting departments, cancelled as the world went into lockdown.

Now he has been cast in Apple TV crime drama Bad Monkey, made by the team behind hit football show Ted Lasso, opposite stars including Rob Delaney and Vince Vaughn.

Based on a book by Florida novelist Carl Hiaasen, Elhaj plays a fisherman who ends up involved with Vaughn’s former detective who is drawn into a world of corruption and greed when a tourist out fishing lands a severed arm.
