A Tube passenger hurled “vile and threatening” racist abuse at a woman after they accidentally bumped shoulders on a platform.

The 45-year-old Asian woman was subjected to the vicious four-letter tirade by a white man on the westbound platform at Aldgate East, British Transport Police said.

The force’s Pc Charlotte Gearing said: “This was an accidental collision, but the victim was subjected to vile and threatening racist abuse as a result.

“We treat hate crime extremely seriously, and nobody should have to put up with such behaviour.”

Officers today launched an appeal to trace the man responsible for the incident shortly after 6pm on April 15.

Pc Gearing added: “I would urge anyone who was at the station at the time and witnessed this incident to come forward.”

Contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference 196 of 13/6/16.
