A young woman halted an attempted rapist’s advances by biting off the end of his tongue, French media report.

The 19-year-old victim was walking to her home in the Purpan area of Toulouse in southern France when she realised she was being followed.

According to prosecutors, the attacker cornered the woman in a lift before “lunging” at her and “violently pulling her blouse”, La Depeche du Midi reported.

But as the 24-year-old man kissed the victim she bit off the end of his tongue.

Police were alerted after the attacker fled, leaving behind a trail of blood and crucial DNA evidence.

A French court heard the man claimed he had been led on. He was jailed on Wednesday after his defence was dismissed.
