Two schoolboys were stabbed in a gang attack in front of shocked rush hour commuters at Victoria station.

Witnesses said they saw about a dozen youths, some in school uniform, were involved in a chase outside the station before hearing the screams of wounded victim from an alleyway between shops.

Dozens of police, including firearms officers, swarmed to Wilton Road, sealing off the street for five hours as an investigation was launched

Two 15-year-old boys were injured in the attack. One is thought to have been stabbed in the arm, the other in the leg. They were taken to hospital.

There were reports that one of the children was attacked by a gang while his friend was injured when he came to his aid. Pictures posted on social media showed what appeared to be a white shirt and school tie covered in blood lying on the pavement near the scene.

The Standard understands that cleaners from the station stepped in to break up the fracas at 4.20pm yesterday.

A City worker said: “I saw the kid with the police. He was covered in blood and had a bandage on his arm and the police were holding it up to try to stop the bleeding.

“One lady was telling us he’d been stabbed after being chased off a bus. My train home was heavily delayed and absolutely packed full. No-one could get on.”

A newspaper vendor saw passers-by run for cover inside the Apollo Theatre. He said: “There were loads of schoolkids around shouting for help. There was a curtain up and blood everywhere on the floor. There was a massive rush to get into the station and it was absolute chaos by the Wicked theatre entrance.”

A commuter called Rebecca said: “They’d put a screen up but you could see the bloodied clothes on the floor. There were lots of people milling around giving officers statements and there were bloodied clothes of a school uniform left there with a tie.”

The stabbing has echoes of the murder of 15-year-old Sofyen Belamouadden who was hacked to death in a ticket hall in Victoria Station in front of horrified commuters in March 2010.

Eight young people were convicted for their involvement in the shocking killing after a series of linked trials involving 20 defendants.

A Met spokesman said: “Two males have been taken to a central London hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening or life changing.

“There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.”

The stabbing came shortly after London Bridge station was also put on lockdown after a security alert was sparked by a suspicious vehicle.

Police evacuated office blocks and shops as crowds took to the streets in confusion. There were lengthy delays to train and bus services.
