Two teenage boys have admitted carrying a 15 inch machete and a 10 inch "Rambo" knife after they were caught by police who were attending reports of cannabis smoking in the stairwell of a block of flats.
The teenagers, aged 15 and 17, were arrested on Sunday and charged yesterday after being found with the weapons in Camberwell, south London.
Police said they were called to the block after reports of a group smoking cannabis, and chased the teenagers before finding the two discarded knives.
A police spokesman said: "Officers located a 15 inch machete style knife and a 10 inch Rambo style knife.
"An investigation began and footage was discovered showing youths brandishing the knives in the stairwell."
Sergeant David Hunt, who made the discovery with his team, posted a picture of the huge blade on Twitter, writing: "Just seized this knife maybe saved another life? Unfortunately didn’t catch the youth carrying it. The worrying thing is why did they have it in the first place?"
A fellow Met police sergeant, Chris Molnar, later replied: "I think you've just topped Crocodile Dundee there #ThatsNotAKnife."
The boys were each given a four month youth offending order after pleading guilty to possessing the blades at Camberwell Green Youth Magistrates' Court today.
