This is the horrific moment a cyclist knocked to the ground is whipped in the head with a belt by a road rage driver.

A cyclist, in his 40s, suffered serious head injuries in the attack sparked by a collision in Westferry Road, Canary Wharf at 1.30am on Saturday.

In shocking video seen by the Standard, a cyclist grips on to a bike chain to defend himself as an argument breaks out with the driver.

It appears to show the driver leaping out of a black Mercedes clutching a balloon between his lips and a bladed weapon in his hand.

The cyclist, lying on the floor, is then repeatedly struck with weapons, whipped with a belt and kicked in the head by the man and his passenger.

The horror attack continues despite the cyclist seemingly knocked unconscious.

“On arrival officers found a man, aged in his 40s with serious injuries to his head. He was taken to hospital where his injuries were assessed as not life threatening or life changing.”

One man, aged in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the attack.
