A thug has been jailed for trying to rape a woman after breaking into her north west London home by climbing up the drainpipe.

Danilo Silva, 33, attacked his victim at her flat in Brent while she slept on her sofa, Isleworth Crown Court heard.

He then fled the scene after the incident on July 5 last year.

Detectives arrested him the next day and charged him with attempted rape and indecent assault after collecting significant forensic evidence.

Silva, of Jansons Road, Tottenham, denied the assault but was convicted of both charges. He was jailed for six years at court today, Scotland Yard said.

Detective Sergeant Steve Grainger, who led the investigation, said: "Silva made a concerted effort to enter an address with the sole intent of committing a serious sexual assault.

"I would like to praise the victim for having the confidence and courage to report her ordeal to police.

"Her evidence was supported by witnesses who should also be praised.

"I hope today's sentencing gives them some sort of closure and also displays the professionalism and commitment of officers within the Met to investigate allegations of sexual crime to a satisfactory conclusion."
