A man was stabbed four times in the back during an attempted mugging on a busy road in south London.

The 33-year-old was walking in Thornton Heath when he was approached by two men, police said.

He was holding his phone and one of the men tried to grab it while the other took out a knife.

In the ensuing struggle, the victim suffered deep cuts to his fingers on the hand holding his phone and four stab wounds to his back.

He was taken to a south London hospital and treated for his injuries before being discharged after the attack as he walked along Thornton Road at around 10.30pm on September 26.

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist the investigation.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Croydon Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
