A talented young footballer was stabbed to death as he cycled through east London in a “sudden, brutal” attack by two teenagers armed with hunting knives, a court was told.

Israel Ogunsola, 18, was knifed in the chest, back and thigh and died from a wound to his heart.

It is alleged he was ambushed by Jonathan Abora, 18, and John-Peter Mokonzele, 19.

Prosecutor Timothy Cray told the Old Bailey that the pair were in a Vauxhall Astra in Morning Lane, Hackney, at 8.24pm on April 4 when they passed Israel and stopped suddenly.

“They closed in on Israel and attacked him two-on-one,” he said. CCTV showed two people fleeing the scene, the court heard.

Mr Cray said Israel, known to friends as Izzy and who had trials with Arsenal as a youngster, was “connected to a gang” while the two defendants were in a rival gang.

The court was told Mokonzele is on the run. Abora, from Islington, denies murder. The trial continues.
