A suspected terrorist accused of conspiring with Abu Hamza to build a Jidhadist training camp is set to be extradited to America following a High Court hearing.

Plans to extradite Harron Aswat, of Batley, West Yorkshire, were initially put on hold after UK judges wanted assurances about how his mental health problems would be treated.

But today judges ruled to extradite him to America where he faces being held in a “supermax” jail, according to his lawyers.

The High Court heard that Aswat, thought to be in his late 30s, had transferred from prison to a psychiatric hospital in 2008, suffering paranoid schizophrenia.

Hamza, who is in his 50s, was extradited from Britain to America nearly two years ago and found guilty of terrorism charges in May after a trial in New York.

Two judges - Lord Thomas, the Lord Chief Justice, and Mr Justice Mitting - today said they were satisfied with assurances given by American government officials about the way Aswat would be treated prior to and during any trial.

And Lord Thomas said Aswat could be extradited in accordance with arrangements made.
