A convicted sex offender with a prosthetic ear has been arrested after fleeing a mental health facility in north London.

Police began a manhunt for John White, 52, on Saturday following his escape. He was last seen in the grounds of the North London Clinic in Edmonton.

The public were warned not to approach White, who has a prosthetic left ear and a scar on his left upper arm.

Scotland Yard said he was arrested on Sunday evening in Westminster before being taken to a north London police station where he remains in custody.

"We thank the public and media for assistance with appeals," the force said.
