A teenager who was one of two youngsters stabbed during a “massive” street fight between suspected rival gangs in north London was recovering in hospital today.

Two 16-year-old boys were found with stab injuries after a clash involving dozens of youths in a street near the Tottenham football club stadium.

People in Tottenham said they feared a repeat of the 2011 riots when they heard sounds of gunshots, screams and revving car engines in Ruskin Road shortly after midnight yesterday.

Residents claimed more than 30 teenagers had gathered in a lock-up behind a barbers’ shop for a party when they clashed with a rival gang, said to be from outside the area.

One victim was taken to hospital in a critical condition but was said to be stable today. A second teenager was discharged from hospital last night after being treated for knife wounds.

Stacey Doherty, 45, a secretary, who lives in Ruskin Road, said: “I heard a massive fight break out, a car accelerating away and then a big bang which might have been it crashing.

“Apparently it was a group of kids who came from out of the area. The shouting and screaming was quite alarming – I thought, ‘Oh my God, the riots are starting again’.”

Marton Obadia, 33, who works in a nearby care home, said: “My colleague was working and she heard two shots. She looked outside and there were people getting into cars and others running away shouting, ‘Let’s go, let’s go.’

“They often have parties there, normally with music and they go on quite late.”

A trader, who asked not be named, said there had been a number of parties in the lock-up in recent weeks.

“If there’s not a fight then it’s broken glass in the street and vomit everywhere, it’s just dragging the street down. Some of the parties go on until 4am.”

The Met Police helicopter was scrambled and firearms officers were sent to the scene at 12.30am after reports of possible gunfire and a large fight.

Last night a silver people carrier was towed from the scene and police continued to scour the area.

Detectives from the Trident Gang Crime Command are investigating the stabbings. Four people were arrested at the scene and were being questioned today.
