Hip hop star P. Diddy has been arrested and bailed after an alleged assault on his son's football coach involving a weight-room kettle bell.
The incident in which no one was injured is said to have taken place at the athletic facilities of US university UCLA, where the rapper's son is on the football team, police said.
US entertainment website TMZ reported a fight with strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi erupted after the young player was told not to come back until the end of the summer.
The 45-year-old, whose real name is Sean Combs, was freed after posting bail of between £31,500 and £100,000 several hours after his arrest, according to conflicting accounts from jail records and sheriff's officials.
His son Justin Combs is a redshirt junior defensive back on the UCLA football team but has played just a handful of games in his three years with the side.
Football coach Jim Mora thanked his staff for their professionalism in handling the situation.
"This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved," he said in the statement from campus police. "While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time."
Combs' representatives did not immediately respond to requests for details or comment.
The arrest is the latest of several allegations of violent incidents involving Combs, including weapons-related charges in connection with a 1999 New York nightclub shooting of which he was cleared.
