Police are hunting a man after a woman was followed into a park and 'threatened at knifepoint' as she returned home from a friend's house at night.

Detectives yesterday released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to about the alleged assault, near Shoreditch Park between midnight and 1am on Sunday, January 5.

The victim, aged in her early 20s, was returning home from a friends' house and walking towards the Dalston area when she noticed a man walking towards her, according to police.

When she turned into Shoreditch Park she was followed, before a man allegedly then grabbed her by the coat and threatened her with a knife.

The victim was able to fight the man off and run away, police said.

The suspect is described by police as white, between 5'7" and 5'9" tall, and is said to have spoken with a cockney accent. He was wearing a knee length coat, jeans and a black flat cap.

Anyone who recognises him or has any information is asked to call police on 0207 275 3164, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
