Betting shop staff in north London were threatened by a would-be robber who told them he had a gun, police have revealed.

Police in Hackney were called to William Hill in Dunsmure Road, Stoke Newington, at 7.28pm on Saturday following reports of an armed robbery.

Scotland Yard said a man told staff at the bookmakers he had a gun although no weapon was seen.

Police added he acted alone and left after threatening cashiers at the betting shop.

The man did not manage to steal anything.

Pictures from the scene show a cordon has been put in place outside the bookmakers

Police said no arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
