Man injured ‘trying to exit car that had been fleeing police’ in Orpington

A man has been rushed to hospital after injuring himself jumping out of a moving car in a desperate bid to evade a police chase in south London.

The passenger, in his 30s, was injured “trying to exit” a car that had failed to stop for police at around 9.10am on Wednesday around Orpington.

The driver, 37, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

A Met spokesperson said: “The passenger, a man in his 30s, attempted to flee but became injured whilst trying to exit the car. He was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service; we await an update on his condition.

“The driver of the car - a 37-year-old man - was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police and dangerous driving.

“He has been taken into police custody.”
