Police have arrested a woman after a woman was found stabbed to death in a New Forest paddock last week.

The 28-year-old woman was held on suspicion of conspiracy to murder in connection with the death of Penelope Davis, 47.

Mother of five Ms Davis, known as Pennie, was discovered by her husband Pete in a field near Beaulieu, Hampshire, on September 2.

Hampshire Constabulary said another suspect, a 36-year-old man, remained in police custody today on suspicion of Ms Davis's murder after officers were granted a further 36 hours to hold him.

The developments emerged as detectives re-appealed to anyone who has information about the killing to come forward.

They want to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious near Ms Davis' workplace at Sainsbury's on Hampton Lane, Blackfield, between 1.30 and 3pm on September 2.

The mother left work and drove in her dark green Toyota Land Cruiser to the field by Leygreen Farm near Beaulieu where she was found later that day.

Meanwhile, a woman appeared in court yesterday charged with assisting an offender and intending to pervert the course of justice in connection with the inquiry.

Leanne Doyle, 24, of Beech Crescent, Hythe, appeared at Winchester Crown Court. She was released on bail and will reappear at the same court on October 1.

A 22-year-old man previously arrested on suspicion of murder and a 37-year-old man held on suspicion of assisting an offender have both been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Crimestoppers have offered a £5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Ms Davis's killer or killers.

Her children and her widower have described her murder as "long" and "agonising" and said they had been "overwhelmed by love and support".
