The family of an Irish woman missing in Australia for six days today spoke of their heartbreak after her body was found dumped in a shallow grave.

Jillian Meagher, 29, vanished in the early hours of Saturday after leaving friends at a bar in Melbourne to make the five-minute walk to her home.

Mrs Meagher, who was employed by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, made a phone call to her brother in Western Australia and then vanished.

Adrian Bayley, 41, was charged with rape and murder shortly after Mrs Meagher’s body was found in bushland about three miles from Melbourne.

Her husband Thomas Meagher and brother Michael McKeon were in a Melbourne court today to see Bayley remanded in custody.

Ms Meagher’s uncle, Michael McKeon said from Ireland: “We are heartbroken ... her aunties, uncles and cousins are powerless to describe their loss.”
