Police are hunting for a man after a mother and daughter were found stabbed to death in a suspected double murder in north London.

Joshua Cohen, 27, is wanted for questioning in connection with the killings of the two women, aged 33 and 66, at their home in Golders Green.

Police have warned that members of the public should not approach Mr Cohen, who has mental health issues including paranoid schizophrenia.

Murder detectives described the stabbing, which happened on Friday night, as a “devastating attack on two women in their homes” and said they believe the victims knew Cohen.

Detective Inspector Ian Lott added: “I would urge anyone who saw anything in the local area at the time of the attack to get in touch with investigators immediately. Likewise, if you spot Joshua Cohen please call police on 999."

Officers have stepped up patrols in the Barnet borough and forensics are scouring the home in Golders Green Crescent.

Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Rose from Barnet said: "I would like to reassure local residents that police are doing everything they can to find and apprehend the individual suspected to be involved in this horrific attack. High visibility foot patrols have been stepped up in the area and police will be on hand to listen and respond to community concerns. We will continue to work with the CST and keep them fully updated with significant developments. "

A Met statement said: “Police were called to a residential address at Golders Green Crescent, NW11 at 8.o50pm August 11 following reports of two seriously injured women.

"Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found two women aged 33 and 66 suffering from stab wounds. Both women were pronounced dead at the scene.

"Their next-of-kin have been informed. While we await formal identification, officers are confident that they know the identity of the victims and that they are mother and daughter.

"The suspect was known to the victims and detectives are appealing for information on his whereabouts.”

Cohen is described as white male, 5ft 9ins tall, with short cropped hair and short beard.

He is believed to have been wearing a red Nike hooded sweatshirt with a white logo on the chest, white trainers and dark grey trousers or tracksuit bottoms. He had recently shaved off his head and eyebrows.
