A 59-year-old man accused of carrying out a diamond raid at an exclusive Mayfair jewellers will stand trial in February next year.

Daniel Jones is accused of burgling Chatila, stealing gems, jewellery and luxury watches during the bank holiday weekend in August 2010.

The jewellery store in Old Bond Street is where Amal Clooney reportedly bought earrings for her wedding.

Jones appeared at Southwark Crown Court this afternoon to plead not guilty to one count of burglary.

A second man, Terry Perkins, 68, is also accused of pulling off the audacious burglary between 27 and 31 August 2010

He appeared in the dock but did not enter a plea today.

Businessman Charles Matthews, 53, today denied handling the stolen loot from the burglary.

Judge Alistair McCreath QC, the Recorder of Westminster, adjourned the case until a two week trial starting on February 27.

Jones, of Park Avenue in Enfield, denied burglary while Perkins, of Heene Road in Enfield, did not enter a plea to the same charge.

Matthews, of Semples Lodge, Meadow Road in Virginia Water, Surrey, denied handling stolen goods.
