Man charged with attempted murder after woman ‘attacked with axe’ in east London

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a women was allegedly attacked with an axe in east London.

Nicolae Virtosu, 47, was also charged with making threats to kill following the alleged incident in Ilford on April 9.

He was remanded in custody to next appear at the Old Bailey on May 10.

Police and paramedics found the woman, 53, suffering serious injuries at a residential address in Princes Road.

Officers had been called to the scene by the London Ambulance Service just before 2.10pm to a report of a woman attacked with an axe.

She was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage.
