A 25-year-old man has been arrested after an elderly passenger's zimmer frame was hurled from a bus as he was subjected to a torrent of Islamophobic abuse.

The older passenger, who is thought to be Turkish, became the victim of the rant, which was filmed, as the bus passed through Tottenham.

The pensioner was branded a "w****r" and told to "go back to Turkey" by the younger man, as the bus travelled down the High Road.

The footage ends when the passengers get off the bus in Dalston, where the younger man snatches the victim’s walking frame from him and throws it to the ground.

A police investigation was launched after a video of the incident, which is believed to have occurred on Saturday, October 17, was posted on YouTube, where it was viewed thousands of times before being referred to police.

Scotland Yard confirmed a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence after handing himself into a police station and was still in custody in north London on Monday evening.

Anyone with information that may assist this investigation, or was on the bus when the footage was taken, is urged to call Haringey police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
