A teenage cyclist has been killed after being struck by a car on a busy road in Essex.

The 15-year-old boy was cycling along Clingoe Hill, Colchester, on Saturday when he was hit by a car.

Paramedics rushed to the incident and an air ambulance was scrambled but the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Essex police arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers were called shortly before 12.05pm on Saturday with reports of a collision involving a car and a cyclist, a 15-year-old boy.

“The ambulance service and air ambulance also attended.

“Sadly the teenager died at the scene. His family have been informed.

“The road is currently closed between St Andrew’s Avenue and Colchester Road while emergency services are on the scene and investigations are carried out.

“Drivers are asked to please avoid the area.”

Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Pc Heidi Lee at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101.
