Two suspected migrants have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after apparently falling out of a lorry on the M20.

The motorway was shut in both directions between junctions 1 and 2 in Kent while ambulance crews tended to the men, who were taken to King's College Hospital and St George's Hospital in south London.

South East Coast Ambulance Service said the men were seriously hurt but could not be specific about the injuries or their ages.

A Kent Police spokeswoman said: "Kent Police was called at 10.08am to a report of two casualties on the hard shoulder of the M20 London-bound between Junctions 2 and 1.

"A road closure is currently in place in both directions while air and road ambulance teams tend to the casualties, both of whom have serious injuries.

"Officers are currently carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances behind the incident."

The motorway has now reopened heading away from the capital, but remains shut heading into London.
