A 23-year-old from south London viciously attacked a taxi driver nearly three times his age after refusing to pay a fare.
Roofer Alfie Good, of Court Wood Lane, Croydon, repeatedly kicked the 65-year-old cabbie in the head while the older man was on his knees, a court heard.
Croydon Crown Court was told Good unleashed his sickening attack following a struggle in the back of the cab.
It began after cowardly Good admitted he had no cash following a three-mile journey from South End to Foxearth Road.
The driver told him to get out of the cab, and he refused.
ndeterred, the plucky driver went to remove him physically.
“After a violent struggle the taxi driver overpowered Good and pinned him to the ground,” a Met spokesman said today.
“The taxi driver released Good after Good said he’d had enough, but Good jumped to his feet and started kicking the taxi driver around the head whilst he was still on his knees.
“Good walked off after kicking the taxi driver a number of times in the head, leaving him curled on the ground.”
The injured cabbie, who needed hospital treatment, managed to call the police and Good was arrested soon afterwards nearby.
Good denied the offence for more than a year, only pleading guilty when the trial began.
Det Con Brad Stow, of the Met’s Croydon police team, said: “The sentence reflects the seriousness of the assault carried out by Good and his complete unwillingness to accept his actions until the trial started.”
