The City trader who was shot in the leg with a sawn-off shotgun has told of the moment he saw a masked gunman running towards him.

Robin Clark, 44, a broker at RP Martin, was shot in his right thigh just before 6am on Friday in Shenfield station car park after sharing a lift with a friend on his way into London.

Mr Clark, a father-of-four dubbed the “Wolf of Shenfield”, was today still in hospital under armed guard. He said: “They came straight at me — but no words were said. I put my hand over the wound and felt a reasonable amount of blood come out.

“I said a quick prayer because I thought this was going to be the end. I thought I was going to bleed to death before help would come.”

Mr Clark’s friend dialled 999 and he was taken to Basildon Hospital, where doctors operated on him.

Detectives interviewed him for the first time yesterday. Mr Clark had admitted falling into debt but denied owing loan sharks money.
