A car collector has told how he felt "helpless" as he watched a thief drive away his vintage Porsche just two days after it was shipped to London from the USA.

Kris Bones was at home in Dulwich when he heard someone start the engine of his Porsche 1977 911S, which was parked on his driveway, before speeding away.

The 44-year-old music director, who has worked with artists including The Wu Tang Klan and Prodigy, had only recently bought the rare car from a dealer in Maryland.

He has reported the crime to police but was told they do not have the resources to investigate the theft.

Describing the moment he saw the car being stolen, he said: "It was a very bizarre experience. The whole thing has been like a movie. I felt helpless. I did not know what to do.

"You hear stories about someone trying to do something and they get hurt."

He continued: "It's irreplaceable. It would have probably become a long time favourite."

Mr Bones, who was born and raised in Brixton, has lived in the Dulwich since 2007 and said he did not consider it to be an area where residents were at risk of crime.

He said: "There are Aston Martins in the road, but there is not generally any car crime here. The police think that whoever stole it saw it being parked here."

He added that he had been "humbled" by the response from people who had learned of his loss.

He said: "More importantly I'm taking away with me from this is the humbling experience of how everyone on social media rallied round to help. It's been amazing."

The car was stolen close to Forest Hill Road on Sunday (November 15) at about 10pm.

Anyone with information can contact police on 101.
