These unbelievable photographs show the scale of devastation left behind by the men who carried out the biggest burglary in British legal history.
Scores of jewellers from across London kept their wares in this basement in Hatton Garden, which was ransacked by a “dad’s army” of elderly villains in a heist that left millions of pounds of valuables unaccounted for.
On Friday, 24 hours after the conviction of three members of the gang, the company that ran the site released pictures of the damage left behind.
They show safety deposit boxes that have been ripped from their casings before being strewn on the floor of the expansive vault.
The now easily recognised hole – through which the men gained access – is also pictured following its resealing in the wake of the crime.
More than £14 million worth of goods was taken in the raid but some £10 million of that is still missing.
A total of seven men with a combined age of 444 face lengthy jail terms for the heist, which took place over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend last year.
The gang are due to be sentenced on March 7.
Detectives are still hunting a mystery key suspect amid fears he could have fled abroad.
The Met’s Flying Squad issued an urgent public appeal for help in tracing the thief, known only as “Basil”, and the missing two thirds of the loot.
