The mother of a young man with autism shot dead on his doorstep today demanded justice for her son.

Chad Gordon, 27, was blasted in the head by two gunmen on a moped in a suspected case of mistaken identity after he answered the door on Monday evening.

The shooting on a housing estate near Finsbury Park, described by police as a “cowardly attack”, is the 10th murder inquiry launched by the Met since lockdown began on March 23.

Mr Gordon had been staying with his grandmother to shield from coronavirus. As well as being autistic he also had high blood pressure.

The gunmen, wearing dark clothing and motorcycle helmets, struck at 8.20pm. Witnesses said they rang the doorbell of the house in Wiltshire Gardens and fired a single fatal blast.

Neighbours ran outside to try to save Mr Gordon who lay dying on the veranda.

His mother Ann Marie Hutchinson, 48, told the Standard that she raced to the scene to find her son surrounded by paramedics and police.

She said: “I told the police that I needed to kiss my baby and let him know that he was not alone. I held him, I was crying, I just couldn’t bear to think of him dying alone.”

She added: “He was nothing to do with any gangs, trouble or anything. One minute he was sitting in his house, the next he was dead.

"He was a peaceful soul, I would call him my gentle giant. He wouldn’t hurt a fly, our grief is unbearable.

"His nan (my mother) had to deal with this as well, it’s so cruel. The police need to find out who did this as soon as possible. The family want justice.”

A neighbour said they had known Mr Gordon for years and he was not involved with gangs.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Partridge said: “I strongly suspect that he was not the intended target of this attack.” No arrests have been made.

Police are urging witnesses, including anyone with dashcam footage of the moped, to call them on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
