Three people were injured after a mass brawl broke out in the street between drinkers at two pubs following England’s Euro 2016 opener against Russia.

Surrey Police have appealed for witnesses after a fight broke out between people at the Kings Head and Stoke pubs in Guildford on Saturday.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody and three people were treated for cuts and bruises.

The brawl took place in Stoke Road at around 11pm, shortly after England were held 1-1 by Russia in the first group game of Euro 2016.

Detective Sergeant Dave Bentley, who is investigating the incident, said: "This was an unpleasant incident involving a large group of people which broke out in the street after the football match.

“A number of people were injured as a result of a number of bottles and glasses being thrown and there was also a considerable amount of damage caused.

"We are carrying out a large number of enquiries in order to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and we are determined to identify all those who were involved to ensure they are brought to justice and demonstrate our commitment to keeping our local communities safe.”
