A major street was blocked off as police carried out a dramatic swoop in east London.

Officers stopped a car in East India Dock Road as part of a pre-planned operation on Tuesday afternoon.

A man was arrested on suspicion of possessing firearms.

Scotland Yard said the incident was not terror-related.

A spokesman for the force said: “A man has been arrested in East India Dock Road during a pre-planned operation.

“At around 2:20pm on Tuesday, officers stopped a car in East India Dock Road.

“A man was arrested on suspicion of possession of firearms.”

The road has since been reopened.
