A butcher has been charged with raping a woman in a park in Camden.

John William O'Neil, of Chantrelle Court, Yeoman Street, was arrested by police on Tuesday following the incident in Camden Gardens late on Sunday.

The 28-year-old was charged on Wednesday with one count on rape and one count of GBH with intent, police said.

The victim, aged in her 40s, was rushed to a central London hospital after the incident as an area of the park was cordoned off by police.

O’Neil will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

A second man, aged 26, was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of rape, but has since been released under investigation.

The investigation by the Central North Command Unit's Safeguarding team continues.
