Astonishing CCTV footage shows a woman falling through the ceiling of a supermarket as she tries to evade police.

The clip, which has been shared thousands of times on social media, shows the woman crashing down through the ceiling and landing on a shelving unit at the convenience store in Canada.

Unfazed by the impact, she immediately got to her feet with only one shoe on. She then lay on the floor with her hands in the air when police entered the building.

Police were called to the Spruce Grove Shop in Edmonton last week after the woman, 29, and her accomplice, a 28-year-old man were suspected of attempting to use a stolen credit card.

The shopkeeper stood calmly behind the till, while two security guards wrestled the male suspect, who was shirtless, to the ground near the entrance.

The woman, wearing a pink vest and black shorts, ran into the store room at the back of the shop and climbed up onto a shelving unit and into the roof.

Seconds later, the CCTV showed the female suspect hurtling through the roof and into a shelving unit, before landing on her knees on the ground.

Police said the two suspects were eventually arrested at the store last Monday.

Writer Omar Mouallem tweeted a link to the clip with the caption: “This security tape of a botched robbery is a masterpiece of silent cinema.”

Another Twitter user wrote: “This has everything. Romance, betrayal, partial nudity, action, layers of plot, cops and robbers, dramatic tension… and a surprise happy ending.”
