A group of X Factor contestants were left out in the cold last night as they were turned away from an exclusive London nightspot after this weekend's live shows.

Budding stars Jake Quickenden, Paul Akister, Jack Walton, and members of the Stereo Kicks group were among those snapped being denied entry to celebrity hangout Whisky Mist.

The group were looking to hit the town after the first weekend of live shows - but are reported to have been turned away for not having their ID on them.

But their spirits were soon lifted as they celebrated staying in the competition when a group of enthused female fans mobbed them on the street outside the exclusive Mayfair venue.

The group, dressed casually in trainers, T-shirts and checked shirts, were looking to let their hair down after seeing Louis Walsh's acts Blonde Electra and Overload Generation axed from the show.

The exclusive Whisky Mist venue is a popular haunt for celebs, and has been a venue of choice for contestants in previous competitions.

After being turned away from the club, this year's hopefuls would have been justified in turning their attention to their gruelling schedules ahead of the 1980s themed week - for which rehearsals were due to get underway this morning.

The debacle follows another incident in which X Factor's contestants were reportedly told they could not travel First Class as they travelled to the judges' houses in Bermuda, Mexico and Los Angeles.
