Knowing me, not knowing you... Courtney Love taunted over 'Alan Partridge' fling

Courtney Love has revealed how she was taunted with Alan Partridge catchphrases after sleeping with Steve Coogan — but had no idea who the fictional DJ and TV host was.

The musician had a relationship with Coogan in 2005 but said she only knew him as the actor who played record boss Tony Wilson in the 2002 film 24 Hour Party People.

She admitted: “All it was, was a couple of shags at the Sunset Marquis and I did not know he was Alan Partridge.

“I thought he was Tony Wilson in 24 Hour Party People — someone I’d always had a daddy thing for.”

The singer with Hole said: “I had never seen Alan Partridge. But I was in a band with people who did know Alan Partridge, so I had to make a record with them constantly saying, ‘Back of the net!’”

Love, 49, spoke out as Coogan attacked celebrities who talk about their private lives or make public apologies when sex or drug scandals are exposed, saying they are “pitiful” for doing so.

The widow of Kurt Cobain is currently promoting a new album.

Coogan, 47, is also on the publicity trail for the Alan Partridge film Alpha Papa. But in an interview with Radio Times magazine, he denied that doing promotional interviews for the movie meant he had made a “Faustian pact” with the press.

He said he would never apologise for his perceived indiscretions.“When my life has been the subject of tabloid intrusion what I have never done is get engaged in justifying myself,” he said.

“Celebrities who go around apologising are pitiful and don’t do themselves any favours. My closet is empty of skeletons as a result of the press.”

Coogan won £40,000 in damages from the News of the World in 2012 after it admitted improperly obtaining information about his fling with Love, but she says she received nothing.

“I got a letter saying I had to get legal representation in Britain and couldn’t afford to,” said the star, who narrowly avoided being made bankrupt in 2006.
