The Shore Club, Turks and Caicos - review

Fancy crystal clear waters and perfect white sands? What a question...

Set on the pristine shores of Long Bay Beach, The Shore Club is the Caribbean’s most stylish new hotel, removed from the crowds and clichéd all-inclusives.

Although Turks and Caicos boasts crystal clear waters and pristine white sands, it hasn’t traditionally held the cachet of somewhere like St. Barth’s, which has long been revered for its seaside glamour. But that’s all changing, and the British colony has become a highly coveted destination with the arrival of high-end luxury resorts, including Amanyara, and most recently, The Shore Club – a chic and exclusive enclave that is the first hotel to set up on Long Bay Beach.

Where is it?

The Shore Club is positioned on the most pristine and secluded strip of oceanfront real estate on the east end of the Providenciales. It is the first and only resort located on the 2.5-mile Long Bay Beach, and conveniently, it’s just a 5-minute drive away from Grace Bay (where there are a multitude of dining options) and 15-minutes from the Providenciales International Airport.

Style

Fresh, contemporary, and chic with a white-on-white colour palette that allows the azure blue ocean to take centre stage. It’s a welcome departure from the outdated tropical décor that seems to endure at many Caribbean beach resorts.

The rooms have furnishings that feel less like a hotel and more like items that have been carefully curated for a beach house: there are colourful abstract artworks on the walls, vases filled with flowers, and modern chandeliers hanging throughout the living areas.

The design was led by RAD Architecture (also responsible for W Turks & Caicos and Six Senses Sayulita).

Which room?

Opt for a junior suite, where you can enjoy panoramic ocean views, a private veranda, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a butler on call. The hotel features 106 oceanfront suites in total, and recently, it unveiled six 8,800 square foot villas that each contain six bedrooms, a private heated pool, private courtyards, and sprawling terraces. If you’re travelling as a family or in a group, the villas are the perfect option.

Food and drink

There are three dining concepts, scaling from casual to fine dining, but the star here is Sui-Ren – a Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant led by Chef Daniel Delgado.

The menu features a great deal of seafood, including conch (pronounced ‘konk’), which is a Turks and Caicos speciality, along with fresh lobster, scallops, soft shell crab, and a range local fish and shellfish.

There’s also an anticucho section, with a variety of Peruvian flame grilled meats. For something more casual, there’s Colonnade and Sea Grapes, which both offer a range of tapas, burgers, and salads. And, in keeping with the tropical tradition, they have mastered fruity cocktails for lounging by the pool.

Facilities

The Shore Club contains everything that a fabulous beach resort should have.

There’s a variety of watersports equipment on offer (paddleboards, kayaks, snorkels), tennis courts, a business centre, a kids' club, and a wellness centre with a spa, a lap pool, a salt room, a yoga studio, and a gymnasium with state-of-the-art equipment. There’s also the option of chartering a private yacht with a full crew.

When to go

The weather is consistent throughout the year, with minor variations in the temperature. December through until April is the high season; August through until December typically has higher rainfall averages.

How to get there

British Airways, American Airlines, and Delta offer flight routes to Providenciales International Airport. Travelling from London often involves a layover in Miami, so breaking up the trip and spending a night there either side is a good option.

Details

Prices range from $700 per night to $11,000 per night.
