The art of the Midwest

A pivotal state in the recent US presidential elections, Ohio is in the spotlight once again with a new hotel opening in Columbus, the capital of the Mid-Western state. The 13-floor, 532-room brick and glass Hilton Columbus Downtown has a pool bistro. It is surrounded by the transformed Arena and Short North districts, the latter Columbus’s designated arts district.

Fittingly, the hotel’s chic interiors draw inspiration from the neighbouring arts community with more than 225 original pieces.

Paintings, sculpture and photographs from local artists grace walls and even ceilings in each guest room. Alice Schille’s Sea and Tidle River, a reproduction of the original found in the Columbus Museum of Art, is in one of the Deluxe suites.

A soaring 105-foot glass pedestrian skywalk links the hotel with the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
