The Nürburgring 24 Hour race will see three Toyotas race this May, and for the first time one of them will be a crossover. The C-HR will debut at Geneva this spring, and is a crossover with a hybrid engine and a continuously variable transmission. Hardly the ideal vehicle to race for a day and a night.

However, Toyota Gazoo Racing are running the car, with Asahiko Kageyama, Kumi Sato and another driver. It is thought the powerplant will be a modified version of the hybrid-electric set-up in the concept, which has a four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor.

The continuously variable transmission will probably be replaced by a sequential gearbox, and there will be other changes to make it more competitive.

The C-HR will race alongside a Lexus RC and Lexus RC F, and is being entered, Toyota say, ‘to accelerate the building of ever-better people and vehicles under the harsh and unique conditions of the Nürburgring, and apply those experiences in future vehicle development.’
