FordPass tech opens up a whole new world

Blue oval heralds latest ‘mobility’ platform as “iTunes for car drivers”

Ford is forging ahead with its technology development. Its latest announcements include a suite of programs to study autonomous driving in adverse weather conditions, plus closer integration between car and motorist via wearable tech like glasses and bracelets.

The headline news, however, is the imminent arrival of FordPass. A free platform that’s touted as “iTunes for drivers”, the system gives access to a range of ‘mobility’ services. What to share a car or find a rental vehicle? Use FordPass. Need to locate a parking space? FordPass again.

It’ll also allow owners to remotely control certain vehicle functions via the brand’s SYNC Connect infotainment set-up, and connect directly with Ford dealers to arrange servicing. Dedicated FordGuide assistants can help you with your ‘mobility’ enquires via live chat – and company bosses promise they won’t try to sell you anything.

In tandem with this, a new blue oval pilot scheme allows groups of three to six people to club together to lease a car, with costs calculated on each individual’s usage. This would prove especially suited to families, neighbours and work groups.

FordPass will be available from April.
