You can now buy an engagement ring spy camera that will capture the moment of your marriage proposal

With this ring... I'll see you say yes forever

Whether it’s down to nerves or shock, the moment a couple become engaged can pass by in a blur.

Now romantically minded Londoners can make sure they never forget their proposal — thanks to a ring box which comes with a tiny camera inside.

The device, called the Ring Cam, was invented by five friends from Michigan for a university project and is now available to rent in the UK for the first time. It promises to capture the moment forever without being intrusive.

The would-be proposer pays a £200 deposit for the box, which comes with an inbuilt HD camera and microphone and is provided by online retailer thediamondstore.co.uk.

The device can record up to 90 minutes of footage. Once the proposal is complete, the couple can send the box back to the retailer, which will edit the video professionally and send the finished film back to the couple.

It is the latest proposal stunt to come to London, already a creative city when it comes to proposals — flash mobs, surprise appearances and spontaneous singing are among the more inventive ways proposers have chosen to pop the question.

But recording the moment could go wrong, too — as American basketball fan Patrick Moote found when he proposed to his girlfriend at a UCLA match. The footage went viral after she shook her head and ran off. Sam Tzou, chief executive and co-founder of Ring Cam, said: “Ring Cam was invented as an engineering class project for the purpose of helping individuals proposing to record a moment while still keeping it intimate.

“We have [since] been delighted to celebrate with thousands of couples around the world, and are happy for the Diamond Store to be the first jeweller in London to celebrate with couples in the UK.”

Users order the Ring Cam online and select a day for it to arrive — in special discreet packaging to preserve the secret. The camera is free to hire, but a £200 deposit is required. The proposer then has three weeks to return the device. They are under no obligation to buy a ring from the brand.

It also comes with a 4GB memory card and a USB port so the footage can be downloaded easily after the event.
