Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman on new book The Parrots and her love of London

To celebrate the launch of Alexandra Shulman’s novel The Parrots and the launch of their AW15 collection, Jaeger hosted a special evening at their flagship Regent Street store.

As well as a reading and book signing, Shulman took part in an hour long Q&A session in which we spoke about the inspiration behind her second novel and her role as the editor of British Vogue.

The Parrots centres around Katherine Tennison and the arrival of Antonella and Matteo Fullardi, children of an old school friend. Rich and troubled, they provoke a series of events revealing the Tennisons’ quiet family life to be less perfect than it initially seems.

“It is about the difference between youth and age and what family means. It also shows how reckless you might be and how that may surprise you,” said Shulman.

Set in London, the novel also offers a glimpse into the lives of the super-rich and the Mayfair art world which they inhabit. “I do love London. I have lived here all my life in different areas. I love the way you can be anyone you want to be. We have such great parks and galleries. It’s the best place in the world,” added Shulman.
