TfL has revealed the hottest Tube line in London during summer

Summer in London is brilliant. There are rooftop bars to drink on, outdoor cinemas to watch old classics on and plenty of green spaces to throw a picnic blanket down on.

But there’s one element of roasting hot temperatures in the capital that’s sure to aggravate even the most seasoned of commuters.

When the temperature rises to the pleasant mid-20s above ground, it’s common knowledge that the Tube manages to maintain a climate that feels hotter than Death Valley.

And while every journey feels sticky, muggy and unpleasant, some Tube lines are significantly hotter than others.

TfL has, this week, revealed the temperatures of some of the most popular Tube lines, ranking them from hottest to coldest during the summer months.

The hottest line is, unsurprisingly, one of the oldest on the system. The baking Bakerloo line, hits an average temperature of 27C in 2016, peaking at a sweltering 31C in August.

Closely following is the Central line, which can hit temperatures of 26.1C at the height of rush hour - when you’re most likely to be wedged under several other people’s armpits.

If you’re looking for a breezy and significantly less sweaty commute this summer, it's the District, Circle, Hammersmith & City or Metropolitan lines that you'll want to reroute onto.

Thanks to the gods of air conditioning, the temperatures on these line average at a bearable 18.5C - meaning you won’t turn up to work looking like you’ve just stepped out of a sauna.
