Princess Eugenie's Royal Wedding: Everything you need to know about St George’s Chapel

On Friday St George’s Chapel will house Princess Eugenie's wedding to Jack Brooksbank – here’s what you need to know

This Friday, October 12, Princess Eugenie will marry Jack Brooksbank in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

If that sounds familiar, it's because by the end of this week Windsor Castle will have hosted two royal weddings this year. The first, of course, being Prince Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle back in May.

It seems St George's Chapel has stolen the hearts of the young royals - and it's not hard to see why. The ornate structure and relative privacy make it the perfect site for a royal wedding.

When was St George’s Chapel built?

While it was established in the 14th Century, building didn’t begin until 1475 and took 53 years to complete – and is now considered one of the masterpieces of the late gothic perpendicular style.

Which other royals have married in St George’s Chapel?

Most recently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle held their very high-profile wedding at the castle back in May.

Before this, Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips married Autumn Kelly in the chapel in May 2008.

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles had their marriage blessed at the chapel in 2005 after a simple register office ceremony.

And Prince Edward married Sophie the Countess of Wessex there in 1999.

Prince Harry was baptised in the chapel in 1984 as was Princess Eugenie in 1990.

Can you get married at the chapel?

The chapel is a Royal Peculiar which is governed by the monarch which means you need to fit specific criteria in order to be married there. Your best bet is to be a royal, a knight, you live at Windsor Castle or are a resident of the College of St George.

Can you visit the chapel?

A visit to the chapel is included in the price of visiting Windsor Castle – but the chapel is always closed to visitors – unless you are a worshipper - on Sundays as there are church services being held throughout the day.
