Not many people can say they have spent 70 years with the person they love.

Today, the Queen and Prince Philip will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary – an incredible feat for any couple.

Queen Elizabeth, 91 and her husband Philip, 96, were married on November 20, 1947.

The world’s longest-reigning monarch and the Duke of Edinburgh met at a royal wedding in 1934 when the Queen was just eight years old and then again in 1939 when the she was 13 – and she says she’s been in love with him ever since.

This has been a hot topic ever since Netflix's original drama The Crown was released last year. The series focussed on the first few years of the pair's marriage along with her inauguration. The second series - the last for Claire Foy as the Queen - will debut on December 8.

So what’s the secret to their long-lasting love?

On their Golden wedding anniversary in 1997, Philip revealed: “I think the main lesson that we have learnt is that tolerance is the one essential ingredient of any happy marriage.

“It may not be quite so important when things are going well, but it is absolutely vital when the going gets difficult.

“You can take it from me that the Queen has the quality of tolerance in abundance.”

In 2006 he added that another secret to a happy marriage is to have different interests.

Prince William added: “He makes her laugh because some of the things he says and does and the way he looks at life is obviously slightly different than her, so together they’re a great couple.”

Prince Philip is seen as boisterous and cheeky while the Queen is quiet and reserved, proving opposites really do attract.

The pair have many shared interests also as both love spending time in the outdoors and both hold their privacy to the highest regard.

In 1997, the Queen said of Philip: “He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know.”

Cute guys.
