#DogsAtPollingStations: Londoners take their adorable pups to the ballot on election day

Everyone’s favourite voting day hashtag is back

It may be grey and miserable outside, but that hasn’t stopped Brits from heading out in their millions to cast their vote to decide who should be the next Prime Minister.

And while the debate rages on in the capital as to who should succeed in the race for 10 Downing Street, Twitter users have taken to social media to remind us that, aside from the freedom to exercise your right to vote, #DogsAtPollingStations is easily the best thing about election day.

Yes, it’s that time of year again where eagle-eyed social media users share pictures of adorable pooches big and small waiting patiently outside local churches and community centres, wagging their tails, lolling their tongues and pulling their best ‘yes I am a good boy’ face.

The hashtag started during the 2015 general election, and has since been fired up at every major vote as a much-needed dose of light relief from the political tension.

Looking at the photographs from this year’s four-legged bunch, it’s pretty clear that the dogs have absolutely no idea what’s going on. But in true canine style, they’re just happy to be involved in everyone’s favourite election tradition.

Because really, if there’s one thing we need today, it’s dogs.

Of course, there are several adorable doggies to admire today, but we’ve taken the hard task of picking our favourite ones for you - from slobbering gentle giants to tiny balls of fluff.

So if you’re still trying to work out where to cast your vote today, or you’ve simply had enough of arguing about politics with your friends, family and colleagues - take a breather from the political squabbling and take a scroll through some of the best boys at the polls in the gallery above.
