Suki's Instagram account is a wanderlust dream. Her 1.3 million followers have watched her explore the forests of Vancouver, the chocolate box foothills of the Swiss Alps and the rocky beauty of Italy's Ligurian Coast.

Suki has done road trips across California, climbed untouched snowy mountains and picnicked in front of German castles. And much like any successful travel blogger, she's a dab hand at an inspirational quote ("not all those who wander are lost").

In fact, the only difference between Suki and most other travel bloggers is that Suki is a bengal cat.

The great cat Internet takeover of the last decade might have largely consisted of cats doing silly things in the confines of their own homes - jumping off garage roofs, playing the piano or giving the dog some side-eye - but now a new wave of so-called 'adventure cats' is taking things one step further.

It might not be possible to herd cats, but with a bit of persuasion, it would seem you can induce them to scale mountains and pose in front of beautiful Swiss lakes.

Laura Moss, who has written about pets professionally for The Huffington Post and Forbes, set up her website Adventure Cats in 2016 after she began noticing a number of cat owners were taking their pets with them on trips.

"People were not only leash training their cats, but also bringing them along when they travelled. I was curious about how people go from doing leash training to actually taking their cat along on hikes and overnight trips. I started the Adventure Cats' Instagram account to share photos of these amazing cats and also to challenge the negative stereotypes we have about cats and the people who love them."

The adventure cats come from all over the world, including "a kitty from Colorado who now lives in California [who] accompanies her owner, Karen Nguyen, everywhere. They hike, camp, paddleboard, fly across the country" and "Stevie from Ireland, who's blind."

Though adventuring might not be for every cat - as Moss points out, some cats won't take to leash training - she thinks it can be "a great way to get exercise as well as mental stimulation and enrichment, which is important for a happy, healthy cat."
